Raja Prabha is a four day long festival followed by rains. It welcomes the agriculture time in Orissa symbolising the moistening of sun dried soil with the first showers of the monsoon in June. It is believed that the mother earth undergoes mensuration during the first three days. i. The term raja means menstruating women. This time is marked as agriculture holiday worshiping mother earth.During the three days women are given break from work and girls decorate Altha on feet .All people are abstained from walking barefoot on earth. Mother earth quench its thirst by the incoming rain and the Unmarried girls of the family are groomed for impeding matrimony through this festival. My painting portrays the symbolic tradition.
