Watercolor painting can be considered one of the most primitive types of painting; they are fun, they are cost-effective and give a lot of possibilities for creative self-expression. Watercolors are water-based and non-toxic, hence making it an ideal tool to teach painting to children. So, if you’re just a beginner or want to get your creative juices flowing, watercolor paintings are a great start! Watercolor being a versatile and flexible medium can yield a variety of results. Despite being a tricky medium to master, there are various watercolor techniques you can adopt as your own to create a skill worth pursuing.

Artists set out their groundwork for big projects usually by using watercolors as their blueprint or outline. These paintings are often used to portray still life, landscapes and portraits. It is the art of drawing, which is usually done on paper using water-soluble pigments. Watercolor painting is familiarly used by the children during school activities and performed with boxed sets of color paints with a wet brush. The pigment transfers itself to the watered brush.

Watercolors usually are mixed with water and the white ground (paper) underneath shines through the painting. Watercolor paintings make for one of the most versatile forms of paintings.

The paper plays an important role in making watercolor paintings because the paper will determine the quality of your painting through its content, weight, texture and production. There is also not much equipment used when making watercolor paintings. Quality can also differ as per the grade of the watercolors.

It is also imperative to know the nature of watercolor paintings. When used initially, will stay wet and the colors will appear to be dark and intense, but after sometime, the colors usually tend to get paler when dry. Once you master this technique, watercolor paintings will seem to be uphill from that point.

Note: If your paintings looks dull make use of more colors and less water, or you can also paint another layer of color over the first.

The merits of watercolor lie in its application and usage, in its transparency, in the vividness of shades and its effectiveness of cost. Watercolor, traditionally, were not effective and vulnerable to sunlight and dust, but with modern technologies and pigment usage, watercolors have become more stable and beautiful.

Conclusively, watercolor painting is the most wonderful form of art to begin with. Lay out your imagination on a paper, use shades to bring life to your expression, and you can create art worth preserving.
