Somya Saxena is a Delhi based artist and a Curator. As a child she was deeply passionate about art and aesthetics, which she pursued in her bachelors a degree in Applied Arts from College of Art, New Delhi. She was trained in various techniques both digital and manual. She works in acrylic, mixed media and enjoys the unpredictability of working over textured surfaces. Somya has been deeply influenced by the works of Modern and Contemporary artists especially Jamini Roy and Paresh Maity, her works do project that inspiration. Passionate about arts led her to do her Masters in History of Art which helped her in achieving more clarity in understanding the nuances of arts and aesthetics, which is clearly visible in the concepts and themes of her work.
Somya started her professional career as an illustrator for Hindustan Times, New Delhi, illustrating for its two magazines; Kadambani and Nandan. From there she worked as a designer, designing posters and brochures for National School of Drama, New Delhi. Being a practicing commercial artist she has chalked her own path since then, where she does work in various mediums ranging from acrylic to digital work, according to her clienteles. She has also gained her curatorial experience working with galleries as research scholar on various publications. Worked with National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi as a Deputy Curator, Handling the Jatan Museum Builder Project for documentation of art objects helmed by Ministry of Culture, India.

After spending seven years aboard on completing my graduation and post – graduation, I started working as a professical commerical artist where I work in different techniques both digital and manual, to give a unique touch to all the projects in terms of execution of thoughts and ideas, according to my clienteles. I then moved to working as a research scholor for various publications like 20th Century Indian Art, Ebrahim Alkazi : Directing Art a unique volume. And also gained curatorial experience working with International gallery, Gallerie Daniel Besseiche, Paris and Museum Daniel Besseiche. Taking forward my training in working with art galleries, I got an opprtunity to work with one of the famous Art Gallery in Delhi , Art Hertiage which was a major learning experrience for me in various dimensions of working as an adminstation, to being a Designer and a Curator.
I later moved to working at National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi as a Deputy Curator, its been 3 years now working with this presitgious Museum of India, handiling Research, Documentation and Curitorial projects. In parellel to this I have been doing my major commerial projects for a car showroom, where I have designed about 20 canvases revamping their latest showroom in Delhi.
Got married, and have traveled around 14 countries meeting artists and experiencing different art cultures across the globe.
