About Artist
Katragadda is emerging painter who has held various painting exhibitions in India and in America. He has been painting since he was ten. He believes that an artist's primary objective should be to capture a culture – and that a culture, or ethnicity, can be best understood through its women. He paints colourful and elaborately dressed, voluptous, dark Indian women, paying equal attention to their omnipresent bindis and resplendent ornaments as he does to their draped saris and brilliant blouses. His portraits are as abstract as they are figurative. He tends to abstract away from facial features, and lays more emphasis on the way a culture has sculpted the woman as a whole, especially the colours, which are depicted in brightest of colours – reds, saffrons and yellows – the most essential Indian colours. His paintings have been featured at Chitra Kala Parishath, Kalarasa Gallery (Bangalore), Art Walk (San Diego), IndianArtCollectors.com, Mixture ShowRoom (San Diego), Paintings Etc. (Singapore), Chlorophyll (Chandigarh) and IndianPainters.net. One of his paintings is in the private collection of Mani Ratnam. His paintings are collected worldwide.
