ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Priyanka Rishi is an idea-centric storyteller who narrates experiences and shapes characters that defy bias, patriarchal cultural codes and man’s greed for control. Twin themes of man-nature conflict and challenging the archaic notion that ‘gender must dictate behaviour’ can be seen across most of her current work. Sociology interested her in observing cultures & patterns of collective behaviour; while a two decade long career in advertising enabled her to value the power of an idea - both of which get reflected in her artworks. Largely self-taught, she created her first oil painting at the age of 14 and developed her skill by undertaking intermittent workshops with local artists. She works across oil, acrylic and mixed media. She is also an experimental stoneware potter. Rishi recently relocated from Mumbai to Goa to focus on her artistic endeavors. She has been creating her original paintings for the past 6 months.
